Introduction: Meet Dr. Brendan & Elaine Martin

Hi friends! I am so excited to launch this new series of blog posts all about digging deeper into how your food is produced as well as sharing recipes and tips and tricks on preparing and enjoying beef. There are so many practices out there on how to raise livestock, fruits, and vegetables and knowledge is POWER. So, I hope you'll follow along as we share an inside look at how it's done on our family farm in Virginia.

I'm Elaine Martin, the face and creative guru behind Blue Cedar Beef.  I'm a 29-year-old Millennial living in rural American and agriculture is my passion! I grew up on a farm in the Midwest and have loved farming and being outdoors from a young age. I was a member of 4-H and FFA during my growing up years, went on to college at the University of Missouri where I studied Animal Science, took as many part-time jobs, internships, and experiences as I could in the agriculture industry to find the niche that best suited me. I landed in production agriculture raising beef cattle.

My husband, Dr. Brendan (large animal veterinarian), also grew up in agriculture and our paths crossed during college as we both took internships in the same small town of SW Kansas. He was working with local large-animal veterinarian during his years in veterinary schools and I was working with a cattle ranch nearby. Fun fact: I won him over by inviting him over for dinner and served him my famous Roast Beef! The rest is history!

Today, Brendan and I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where we raise beef cattle, market our home-raised beef Nationwide, and run a large animal veterinary practice.
